The Workplace and Christianity
Many people like to think that it's unprofessional to discuss politics, religion, game statistics, and anything else that would tear apart a team of people that come together to meet goals in their company's arena. While Christians must be careful in the area of discussing religion in the workplace we must also understand that it is apart of who we are as people. What is a Christian without Christ from 9:00 - 5:00?
I understand the issues with trying to convert someone on your 15 minute morning coffee break or even in the middle of a meeting inside of a conference room of people who are together to discuss sales figures from the previous month. I'm not saying to bring your Bible to every meeting. What I am saying is when people ask you how your weekend was this is the platform for Jesus to come in and a chance for you to tell them about what the Lord is doing.
Prayer in the Workplace
Jesus blessed me with my job and all of my finances. Without Jesus I wouldn't be where I am in my job or in my life. He blessed me and provides for me. Therefore, I pray at work. The reason I pray at work is because the devil never sleeps. As a Christian it is easy to become double minded about things. There are so many distractions going on in our lives and around us. We say we trust God but when we are behind on our bills or when our children are sick we begin to worry and panic.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”
The devil's mission is to knock us off of the path we are walking, with Jesus. He wants to devour our efforts and prevent souls from coming to Christ. He will do anything and he will stop at nothing. Remember, the devil hates us. The devil wants to discourage us in any way he can. Do not allow it.
The Bible tells us to pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Supplication is the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly. Prayer is HOW we put on the armour of God. Without prayer, we are doomed. We need to always set ourselves up for prayer.
Most Christians that I know personally, pray first thing in the morning. They say it jump-starts their day to stay Christ-minded throughout the day. I start my day with prayer, it keeps me aware of the spiritual realm that is among us. The devil's agenda does not stop in respect of your job. He seeks these moments out because it's the time we are focused on the things our job asks us to focus on. We must pray at work to keep ourselves protected from anything that may cause us to lose our jobs or worse, our faith.
The Bible says to stay Christ-minded (Romans 8:1-39) and to meditate on the word day and night (Joshua 1:8). This includes when we are out in the world. If we are to stay Christ-minded this means we are always looking to be like Jesus, striving to live holy, loving our brothers and sisters, and reaching more souls for the Kingdom of God.
“10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”
